Second Responders and Truancy Project:
Program Description(s): The Second Responders Project works in partnership with the Metropolitan Police Department, East River Family Strengthening Collaborative, Department of Mental Health, and Department of Youth Rehabilitative Services in providing brief intervention services to non-violent youth offenders. The goal of the project is to diminish the escalation of delinquent behavior by first time non-violent youth offenders. The primary services provided are: in-home family assessments, facilitation of family unity meetings, providing solution-focused family therapy, provide information referral services, and linkage to critical community resources. The Truancy Project works in partnership with DC Public Schools, DC Superior Court, Deputy Mayor for Youth, Families, and Elders, DC Board of Education, Child and Family Services, Department of Mental Health, Office of the Attorney General and the Public Defender Service to increase school attendance, improve academic performance, and improve student behavior through an early, comprehensive, strength-based, family systems approach to truancy. This program is an integral part of a uniform procedure for children exhibiting truancy behaviors. The primary services provided are: case management, monitoring attendance, individual and group counseling, parenting skills training. |
